Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 464 ratings

The author of the beloved international hit The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot returns with a funny, uplifting story about the power of friendship and finding love in unexpected places.

Eddie Winston is 90 years old. He has lived and he has loved, but he has never been kissed.

A true gentleman and incurable romantic, Eddie spends his days volunteering at a charity shop, where he sorts through the donations of the living and the dead, preserving letters and tokens of love along the way. And it is here that he meets Bella, a troubled young woman who, at 24 years old, has just lost the love of her life.

When Bella learns that Eddie is yet to have his first kiss, she resolves to help Eddie Winston finally find love, sparking an adventure that will take them to unexpected places and, they hope, bring Eddie Winston to the moment he has waited for all his life.

A tale of friendship and kindness that reminds us that those we love are never forgotten and it is never too late to try again.

A charming novel of love and friendship
5 out of 5 stars
A charming novel of love and friendship
Eddie Winston is Looking for Love is an absolutely charming novel of love and friendship. It’s also about grief and discovering it’s never too late for a happy ending. The novel features 90-year old Eddie and 24-year old Bella, who form an unlikely friendship. They team up to ease Bella’s grief after losing the love of her life, and to help Eddie find his one true love, lost to circumstances 60 years earlier. The story is told in dual time lines from Eddie’s university days in the 1960s to the present time. Eddie is sweet and funny, and I absolutely loved watching his fashion evolution. I laughed and teared up at times, and thoroughly enjoyed this heart warming story. Highly, highly recommended! 5/5⭐️

I enjoyed this book once it got started. It took me a minute to get into it, especially with the back-n-forth POVs between different times. Then I got invested in Eddie's story and really started to hope he would find his Bridie again, cried when I thought he was so close and missed his chance and then again when he finally did. The friendship that he had with Bella was heart warming, the friendship that they both needed without really needing it. Bella kept Eddie young and Eddie kept Bella alive.

I absolutely loved this book. I found myself smiling or laughing each time I picked it up to read. Such a well written, quirky, fun loving story. Bella and Eddie had a wonderful relationship. I also read ‘One Hundred years of Lenni & Margot’ but I feel this book was even better. Well done!

“I sort through the donations made by the living and the dead and I put a price tag on the souvenirs of someone else’s life”.
The most heartwarming story about love and friendship.

Eddie is 90 years old and he's never been kissed. He spends his days volunteering at a thrift store where he sorts through all of the incoming donations (and keeps things he feels like will be missed). At the thrift store, he meets Bella. Bella just tragically lost her boyfriend. The two of them develop an uncommon friendship (with Eddie's guinea pig, Pushkin) and both find answers they're looking for.

First off, we know how much I love an older MC (Ove, Frederick Fife), and now Eddie has been added to that list. His friendship with Bella is unmatched and a beautiful representation that we can learn and grow from all people. I couldn't put this down. I loved Lennie & Margot, but I might love Bella & Eddie more.

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Perennial for the ARC!!!

From the start you feel terrible for Eddie. He is 90+ years and he has never been kissed. In the 1960’s he had a crush on another professor’s wife. Her name was Bridie, short for Bridget. He calls her Birdie, confused with her name. Throughout his life she holds a special place in his heart.
Eddie works at a resale shop. When people bring in precious possessions that he knows they will eventually want, he saves them.
Bella, a twenty something young lady brings in her boyfriend’s letters and his hand decorated shoes. He keeps them. He and Bella become great friends.
Eddie continues to look for someone to kiss him. He has unsuccessful attempts.
He is not discouraged. He continues to look.

Seemed like it might be a good story and I tried to read the paperback version, but the print is so small, I gave up and had to return it.

This was such a beautiful and moving story. Such a mix of love, of longing and of the immense power of friendship. Eddie and Bella’s relationship is particularly powerful as they help each other move forward In very different ways. Finally, at 90 years old Eddie is going to have his first kiss and is helped to undertake this mission, by his young friend Bella. With flashbacks to a long ago past and the promise of future joy this is an emotional rollercoaster with great rewards to the reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Heartwarming Story! Must Read!

I knew this book would be just as touching as the author’s first book (The 100 Years of Lenni and Margot)

Eddie Winston is a 90 year old man who has the kindest heart. He has loved and lost many years ago and though he has lived a full life, he has yet to be kissed.
Eddie works in a used charity shop where he sorts donations of the living and the deceased. Eddie likes to preserve some of these tokens of love.
Upon meeting a young woman named Bella who is grieving the loss of her partner the two strike up a friendship and soon Bella is on a mission to help Eddie find love. During their adventures they learn more about the power of courage, friendship, hope.

Eddie Winston is the type of character I’d want as a friend. You can’t help but adore him. I love his personal story behind the story.
Bella is the comic relief and has a true heart.
I was hoping the end had another chapter but it didn’t really need it to complete the story.

I highly recommend the book. You won’t be disappointed. I couldn’t put it down!

Marianne Cronin just gets better with this book. If she’s this good on only her second novel, I can’t wait to see what book 3, 4 or 10 is like!
What a wonderful, life-affirming story. It made me laugh, smile, cry & sigh. I loved each of the characters equally. I couldn’t finish it fast enough to recommend to my book-reading bestie. Off you go, read it now 🩷
